Presented by Boondogglers Theater Company

Real life neurologist and playwright James Jordan brings us a play about corporate personhood, undead CEOs, and erectile dysfunction medicine - all whilst reading real-time EEG’s of a few lucky spectators, to scientifically prove whether Brecht trumps Aristotle, or TV trumps live acting....

Boondogglers Theater Company announce "Whackjob", to be performed at the West of Lenin Theatre in the Fremont neighborhood of Seattle, December 4-6 and 11-13, with a preview show and cognitive science discussion December 3rd.

"Whackjob" involves a true whackjob, Mr. Corporation, the psychopathic C.E.O. of Pfizerck, the world's largest pharmaceutical company. Pfizerck is ramping up its new erectile-dysfunction-low-T blockbuster, pulling out every unethical stop at its disposal. A young anarchist, John Smith, is out to stop him. The play also involves neuromarketing, cognitive research, eco-collapse, and the "inverted totalitarianism" of corporate multinationals, in this post-dramatic, agit-info, multimedia comedy.

This play/study "incorporates" many unique events. It represents the unveiling of a new conceptual- performance-art piece, "Mr. Corporation, LLC", a character played by actor-director Dan Gildark, but also a true L.L.C. with articles of incorporation filed. Because, as the Supreme Court says, "corporations are people, my friend." As part of Boondogglers' "agit-info" style, all spectators receive a free copy of the script complete with references, to assure no biased "propaganda" has been distributed...

During the show, the Performative Sciences Institute will analyze the emotional and intellectual responses of spectators to various theatrical stimuli, using EEG, eye-tracking, pulse analysis, and surveys. The study has two main objectives. One: to determine whose theatrical performance theory is truly most effective (Aristotle's vs. Brecht's vs. Boal's)? Two: to determine which audio-visual phenomenon do people in a theater attend more to -- mediated vs. live performance?

The play was written by physician-playwright-actor James Jordan, a Case Western University-trained neurologist (MD) and N.Y.U.-trained playwright (BFA), who has written/collaborated on five plays with the Boondogglers, including "eMpTy V", a Seattle New City Playwrights Festival finalist, and "CJD: USA", which portrayed the breakdown of reason in the U.S. after 9-11, spotlighted by The New York Times during UTC's NeuroFEST in NYC. Dan Gildark (and "Mr. Corporation") has traveled to war zones (former Yugoslavia), and when he returned to the United States he put himself through film school in Portland, OR. His last feature film, which he directed and produced, "Cthulhu", won two 'Best of Fest' awards on the festival circuit and garnered theatrical distribution. It is now considered a minor cult classic. Upon completion of "Whackjob", Dan will be directing "Second Skin", a Furry slasher-film set at a Furry Convention.
